Each building is different in nature and purpose – and thus there are different demands on the technical performance of the building materials. The ceiling covers a substantial part of the indoor surface area – and the choice of ceiling has a great impact on the indoor climate and performance of the room. Factors such as sound absorption, sound insulation, light reflection, fire safety, hygiene, cleanability, demountability and resistance to humidity and micro organisms are examples of technical performance criteria that must be considered before a choice of ceiling can be made.
For example – in buildings and rooms where many people will gather there are additional demands for enhanced fire safety.
Or if a lot of hard surfaces are chosen, such as stone, marble floors and glass, the ceilings must provide additional sound absorption to compensate for the room acoustics.
