Creating a modern office for a historic business

Tr-Inox is an Italian company that produces steel accessories for the shipbuilding industry. The company is owned and run by two brothers, Antonio and Roberto Rizzelli, who took over from their father fifteen years ago. In 2019, they decided it was time to renovate the Tr-Inox offices in a way that incorporated their company values: Innovation, Ambition, Competency and Challenge. The brothers brought in architect Rocco de Lentinis to lead the renovation project, tasking him to create a modern design that could usher Tr-Inox into the future.

The importance of an acoustic office

De Lentinis envisioned a space that was beautiful, elegant, modern, and above all, acoustically comfortable. He wanted the office to be a place where people were happy to spend their day working. “Acoustic comfort is crucial to every workspace,” explains de Lentinis. “It’s a ‘must-have’ in order to have a better quality of life, since we spend the biggest part of our day in the office. People should not be driven to distraction by annoying noises.”

This was a challenge, because the space contained a mixture of meetings rooms and offices, making room-to-room sound insulation crucial for focus and privacy. De Lentinis chose Rockfon Blanka® db 46 acoustic ceilings, as they offer high sound absorption, which maintains comfortable sound levels within a room, as well as high sound insulation, which ensures no noise travels to neighbouring rooms.

Rockfon Blanka: An elegant solution

De Lentinis wanted a modern ceiling tile to complement his design, so he selected Rockfon Blanka® with an E-edge. “I wanted to give the office an elegant feel, and I felt the E-edge captured the most elegance,” he says. “I also like the texture of the ceiling panel. It gives the offices a soft look — a relaxed atmosphere.”

As the renovation came together, the new office opened in October 2019. Both De Lentinis and the staff at Tr-Inox felt the ceiling surpassed their expectations. But another unexpected benefit was that on top of its acoustic properties, the ceiling was making the space brighter. Rockfon Blanka® has special light reflection properties that draw in natural light and further reflect it around the space. Now, the brothers at Tr-Inox and their staff enjoy an elegant space that looks brighter, sounds better and feels healthier.
