Is it possible to bond Rockfon ceiling tiles to a soffit and a wall?

Yes. Rockfon Blanka® B edge tiles and Blanka Activity® B edge tiles can be bonded to walls and soffits. Dependent on substrate, specific application and noise absorption requirements, they provide an effective bonded solution with minimal reduction to existing ceiling / soffit height.

How do you cut Rockfon ceiling tiles?

If tiles need to be cut (eg. at the junction of the ceiling with a wall), they can be done so very easily and cleanly by hand using a sharp knife. In most applications, except that is for designated clean room areas and the like, the painting of a site cut edge is only necessary for aesthetic reasons where the cut edge remains visible in application.

The general rule of thumb is: if a site cut edge remains visible in its finished application it should be repainted with Rockfon Paint.

Is it necessary to paint the site cut edge of a Rockfon tile?

In most applications, except that is for designated clean room areas and the like, the painting of a site cut edge is only necessary for aesthetic reasons where the cut edge remains visible in application. Therefore, in anything other than a designated clean room application, due to the inert nature and stability of Rockfon tiles, a non-visible cut edge would normally not require re-painting.

However, if e.g. Rockfon Hygienic® Plus tiles are being used in designated clean room areas which have to operate in accordance with ISO 14644 etc. and there is a need for the ceiling tiles to have been tested in accordance with ISO 14644-1, or it is requested by a client that all cut edges should be repainted, the cut edge(s) of the tiles should be repainted using Rockfon Paint.

The general rule of thumb is: if a site cut edge remains visible in its finished application it should be repainted with Rockfon Paint.

Do Rockfon ceilings need to be acclimatised before installation?

No.

Rockfon ceilings are non-hygroscopic and humidity/ moisture resistant up to 100% RH at 40° C, so can be used in areas that are subject to fluctuations in humidity and temperature. This also means that there is no need to acclimatize the products, thereby greatly reducing the need to plan ahead regarding possible installation times and environmental conditions.

Recessed modular light integration: I have recently specified a suspended ceiling using 1200 x 600mm Rockfon Blanka® E24 tiles. We are using 600 x 600 lay-in luminaries, and it has been pointed out to me that this will leave an exposed cut showing at the junction between the tile and light fitting. Is there a way around this, or are they just incompatible?

Yes, there is a nice, neat and easy way around this. And, yes they are compatible.

The best practice way to deal with this is to ensure that 600mm long Chicago Metallic™ T24, 2890 Click cross tees are installed to create a 600mm x 600mm module where the lights are to be positioned and to use 600mm x 600mm Rockfon Blanka® E24 (rebated/tegular) edge tiles in the adjacent (to luminaires) module. This will create an aesthetically pleasing solution and will reduce the amount of on site cutting, cut edge repainting etc. otherwise required.
