More than 21 000 square metres of Rockfon MediCare Standard and Rockfon Medicare Plus were specified throughout the corridors, atrium, circulation areas, wards, and ICU of the recently completed 13-storey Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton as part of the first cohort of the government’s new hospital programme. In the corridors, the cost-effective Rockfon MaxiSpan T24 ceiling grid was used, where the grid is suspended from the walls by brackets. It can reach 3m in a single span, enabling BDP to specify three different module dimensions – 600x600mm, 600x1200mm and 2100x600mm – and different tile edge details, allowing the grid to be exposed. At Luton and Dunstable University Hospital's new £142 million care facility, architectural practice Murphy Philipps specified Rockfon MediCare Plus ceiling tiles throughout intensive care units. These specialised tiles meet the stringent hygiene requirements essential for high-risk clinical environments, providing enhanced infection control in spaces supporting 5500 births annually. Contractor Macai Limited installed 4000 square-metres of Rockfon ceiling systems as part of the 16 700 square-metre project. The Rockfon MediCare Plus tiles ensure optimal acoustic comfort whilst maintaining the durability and cleanliness standards required for critical patient care areas.

Emma Children’s Hospital

Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Emma Children's Hospital has a comprehensive transformation through its "Metamorfose" renovation, designed by OD205 Architectuur to integrate patients' hospital stays with their daily lives whilst maintaining a connection to the outside world. Using natural light as their most important architectural tool, the architects specified Rockfon Mono Acoustic across 2000 square-metres in the central corridor to maximise light reflection. "We needed to meet all the requirements in a technical and acoustic sense – and in terms of hygiene", says Architect Peter Defesche. The seamless ceiling design creates the impression of a filled gypsum ceiling whilst delivering the fire safety and acoustic benefits of stone wool construction.

Morriston Hospital

Morriston Hospital has undergone a massive £102 million redevelopment as part of an ambitious plan to reshape the way hospital services are delivered in South West Wales. BAM Construction specified Rockfon MediCare Plus for its outstanding acoustic performance and infection control properties. The ISO Class 3 acoustic ceiling tiles with micro-textured surface fulfil all essential hygiene requirements in healthcare environments and comply with the Department of Health's HBN and HTM guidelines. The water-repellent surface is resistant to bacteria and mould growth, can be steam cleaned, and has Bacteriological Class B1 certification.

At Päijät-Häme Central Hospital, one of Finland's largest healthcare facilities, over 20 000 square metres of Rockfon acoustic ceiling tiles were installed throughout the 33 600 square-metre expansion. In areas requiring higher levels of hygiene, such as the operating theatres, Rockfon CleanSpace Pro HACCP-verified ceiling tiles were specified, featuring smooth, anti-static surfaces made with easy-to-clean materials. At Rigshospitalet's new extension Nordfløjen in Copenhagen, Rockfon Blanka acoustic ceiling tiles were specified throughout the facility to create bright and comfortable spaces. Rockfon Blanka tiles feature a smooth, deep, ultra-white surface with strong light-reflecting properties that maximise daylight reflection and create comfortable indoor environments. According to project Manager Jesper Ulriksen, "the light-reflecting properties are one of the decisive factors for choosing this acoustic ceiling" in Denmark's leading hospital.

Forth Valley Royal Hospital is a £300 million facility constructed by Laing O'Rourke with 860 inpatient and day spaces. Linear Projects Ltd installed Rockfon CleanSpace Essential in standard 600x600mm and 1200x1200mm formats with 24mm grid systems in the patient outpatient treatment room. The CleanSpace Essential range meets HTM 60 compliance requirements whilst providing low particle emission resulting in ISO Class 5 clean room classification. The stone wool core provides no nutritional value to harmful micro-organisms including MRSA, whilst the tiles can be easily cleaned with vacuum or dry cloth.

Bristol, United Kingdom 

At Southmead Hospital in Bristol, one of the UK's most environmentally friendly buildings of its size, contractor Carillion specified Rockfon MediCare Plus ISO Class 3 acoustic ceiling tiles throughout the £430 million healthcare project. Poland's largest paediatric hospital demonstrates healthcare design excellence through the comprehensive modernisation of its reception area, designed by Kuryłowicz & Associates. Processing over 1000 patients daily, the reception area generates a challenging acoustic environment that requires solutions capable of withstanding rigorous hospital cleaning protocols whilst creating welcoming environments. The architects specified the floating acoustic ceiling panels Rockfon Eclipse in a vibrant green throughout waiting areas and hallways. "We tried to avoid the 'look of a hospital' as much as possible", said Architect Aleksandra Czubaszek-Siluch.
